Anna Ruby Falls in Helen GA

August 13, 2010

Anna Ruby Falls, Helen GA

Not too far away from Atlanta, GA is the spectacular Anna Ruby Falls thundering down Tray Mountain in the heart of the Chattahoochee National Forest.  Two side by side falls fed by two creeks:  Curtis Creek and York Creek take breathtaking drops of 50 to 153 feet down to form Smith Creek.  The twin falls can be reached from the parking lot by a .4-mile footpath that will take you approximately 30 to 40 minutes to complete.  I suggest good hiking shoes as the trail winds through Smith Creak that is fed by the twin falls, and the trail can be damp and slippery.   There are benches along the way, and wildlife can be found amongst the babbling Smith Creek.

There is a fee to enter Anna Ruby Falls at Unicoi State Park, but its only $1 per person.  That’s really a small price to pay for such a splendor of nature.   You can make it a weekend by staying at local Unicoi lodge and miscellaneous Bed & Breakfasts, Cabin rentals, Motels/Hotels in nearby Helen.  Helen also sports wonderful stops for attractions, dining, entertainment, and recreational activities like tubing down the Chattahoochee River.

Whether you stay or visit for a few hours, Anna Ruby Falls is a must do on your list of things to do in Northeast Georgia.

3455 Anna Ruby Falls Rd, Helen, GA, 30545

Take GA 75 North from Helen for one mile. Turn right on GA 356 for 1.5 miles, and then go left on the entrance road to the falls.

Blairsville Scottish Festival June 12-13, 2010

June 6, 2010

Back in 2008, my husband and I attended the Blairsville Scottish Festival.  We had a blast that year, even in the pouring down rain.  The rain made all the more ‘Scottish’.  The rain really came down during the Highland Games Athletic Competitions, and made the games all the more interesting.   I had to admit, I was fascinated with the Border Collie demonstration and the Falconry as well as the actual Athletic Competitions.  Sean was able to find out a bit more about his clan, but we have a long way to go to trace his roots.  I honestly felt a bit of an outsider with only a little Scot in me, and a whole lot of German and English.  However, everyone I talked to loved having me there and wanting to learn more about the Highland traditions.

I’ve made a quick slide show below so you can get a glimpse of whats in store for this year.

This year’s festival is the weekend of June 12th and 13th, 2010, and will once again be at Meeks Park in Blairsville, GA.  Activities will include:

Pipes & Drums
Music &  Song
Dance
Kid’s Stuff
Genealogy
Animals
Weaponry
Live Demos
Workshops
and of course the Highland Games Athletic Competitions

Fun for the whole family.  For more information, directions, and tickets, here’s the link, enjoy!

Fine Wine Festival – June 5-6 2010 at Blackstock Vineyards and Winery

June 1, 2010

Blackstock Vineyards and Winery is one of my favorite Georgia wineries.  Having been there and tried several of their wines, I must say I’m delighted they are in my backyard.   I am particularly fond of the Rocking Chair Rose.  Most of my wine buddies like their heavier reds.  If you haven’t been to Blackstock, or any of the other Georgia Wineries then this weekend is a perfect opportunity for giving them a try all in one place.

This weekend, June 5th and June 6th, 2010 Blackstock Vineyards and Winery is having a Fine Wine FestivalSeveral local wineries as well as local restaurants will be there.   For a low price of $35 for a one day ticket ($50 for a two day ticket) you get a souvenir “passport” wine glass to taste wines, and two $5 food tickets.  There will also be access to arts and crafts vendors, music, and a petting zoo for the children.  A special Vineyard trolley tour will be available at a small fee.

The 2010 festival features nearly 50 Georgia-grown wines, and over 15 dishes to enjoy.  So come out this weekend to delight in a summer fine wine and food festival, and bring your favorite dinner guest to partake with you.

They suggest that you bring cash to speed up entry to the event.

Saturday, June 5th. 11am – 5pm
Sunday, June 6th. 1pm – 5pm

$35 – one day ticket
$50 – two day ticket
$15 – non-wine adult ticket
Children admitted free

PROPER I. D. IS REQUIRED.

The website for the festival is here:  http://www.bsvw.com/georgia_fine_wine_festival.shtml

Hope to see you there.

Social Online Media + Concierge = Blog Talk Radio

January 30, 2010

Ever wonder just what exactly I do?  Curious to why I use Online Social Media?  How exactly does a concierge work?   I had a great blog talk radio session with the Social Media Dudes on these and other exciting topics.  You can listen here: http://tobtr.com/s/883986

If you wish to learn more about Online Social Media Marketing, I highly recommend John Panico and Dennis Lynn to be your guides.  They are both down to earth and can put all the confusing aspects of social media into laymen terms and walk you through the ropes.

I hope you enjoy the session as much as I had fun answering questions on what I am passionate about.  Feel free to leave comments and questions.

sunflowers-300

It is that time of the year again. Picking apples, harvesting of the grapes, corn mazes and festivals are fun for all ages, and can be found right here in Northeast Georgia. Below is a list of a few of my favorite local Fall Festivals. Each weekend coming up have something for everyone in the family to enjoy. These events are but a short drive from us, and offer low, if not free admissions for a weekend of entertainment.

While driving up to some of the most northern county fairs, be sure to take time to sight see along the way. Admire the breathtaking scenery of rolling mountains at the height of leaf turning season. Be sure to stop at small road side country stores for a taste of rock candy, or pick up a jar of homemade preserves of various flavors for unique packed lunch sandwiches for school or work.
